Building Leadership
Principal's Letter
Dear Waverly Families,
Welcome to a new and exciting school year at Waverly! As the principal of our district’s
K-1 community school, it is my absolute pleasure to extend a warm welcome to both new and returning families. We are thrilled to have your child join us on this educational journey, where every day is an opportunity for exploration, growth, and discovery.
Waverly School is committed to providing a nurturing and joyful environment where our youngest eagles can thrive. Our dedicated teachers and staff are passionate about creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging space where all children feel valued and inspired to reach their full potential.
In our K-1 program, we focus on fostering a love of learning, building foundational skills in literacy and mathematics, and encouraging creativity through hands-on activities. We believe that early childhood education is crucial in laying the groundwork for future academic success, and we are dedicated to partnering with you to ensure your child’s development is supported every step of the way.
We understand the importance of strong communication between home and school, and we encourage you to stay connected with us throughout the year. Whether attending parent-teacher conferences, participating in school events, or simply reaching out with any questions or concerns, we are here to support you and your child.
Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of educating your child. We look forward to a year filled with joy, growth, and memorable experiences.
Warm regards,
Caitlin Mondelli

Assistant Principal's Letter
Dear Waverly Community,
I am honored to begin the 2024-2025 school year as your Assistant Principal of Waverly Elementary School. It is a privilege to embark on this journey with the Eastchester Union Free School District, especially as we prepare to welcome your wonderful children into our kindergarten and first-grade classrooms.
Having grown up in Eastchester, it is a special experience to return home and work within the community that played such a significant role in shaping who I am today. Throughout my career in NYC Public Schools, I have gained invaluable experience, particularly in the Science of Reading and the craft of instructional coaching. During my tenure on the Early Literacy Team within the Division of Teaching and Learning as an Instructional Specialist for Primary Grades, I trained and supported Universal Literacy Coaches, Principal and District teams across the city to embed instructional coaching and establish a focus on the foundational skills in the kindergarten through second grades. As an AIS Instructional Specialist, I trained and supported Intensive Reading Interventionists across multiple districts, coordinated and implemented data systems, and facilitated professional learning sessions on research-proven literacy intervention strategies. These skills have equipped me to contribute meaningfully to our students' educational experiences, and I am eager to collaborate with our talented team of educators to ensure every child thrives.
In collaboration with Principal Mondelli, our commitment is to create an enriching and nurturing environment at Waverly where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our focus will be on building strong foundations in literacy, igniting and fostering a love for learning, and preparing our students for the next steps in their educational journeys. Together, we will create a school environment that celebrates curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.
I look forward to partnering with all of you—our dedicated families, staff, and community members—to ensure our students have the best possible start to their educational careers. I am committed to maintaining open lines of communication. I welcome the opportunity to listen, collaborate, and share experiences.
Thank you for welcoming me into the Waverly family. I am excited to begin this journey with you and to contribute to the continued success and growth of our school.
In partnership,
Dana A. Damiano
